After your smile has been reconstructed, remember that it will take time for you to adjust to the feel of your new bite. Your bite should feel normal within a few days, but if you continue to notice unusual spots or problems with your bite, contact Pantops Prosthodontics at 434-977-9836 to schedule an appointment for our prosthodontist to adjust your bite.
Following your treatment, you may be sensitive to hot and cold temperatures, and your gums may be sore for a few days. You can relieve discomfort with mild pain medication, or with a warm salt water rinse (1 teaspoon of salt in about 8 oz. of warm water) a few times a day.
Your speech and level of salivation may be briefly affected as well, but these problems with subside in about a week.
Please remember to brush and floss daily. Keeping your teeth clean is critical for the long-term success of your treatment. We strongly encourage you to practice good oral hygiene at home and keep all your regular dental appointments.
We also recommend that you:
- Avoid hard foods and substances that could chip, crack, or damage your teeth
- Avoid sticky candies
- Avoid smoking or tobacco use, as well as foods that can stain your teeth
- Wear a sports mouth guard during athletic or recreational activities
