Some common congenital conditions include:
Cleft Palates
Cleft palates are the result of an incomplete fusion of the roof of your mouth. They create an opening in the gum tissue of the upper mouth and lip, making it difficult to eat and speak normally.
Cleft Lips
Cleft Lips are another common birth defect that can occur. Cleft lips are a result of developing facial structures that do not close properly in unborn babies, resulting in a slit in the upper lip. Cleft lips and cleft palates usually present the same types of problems – primarily difficulties in eating and speaking.
Bells Palsy
Another problem that can cause difficulty is Bells Palsy. This condition affects the nerves on one side of your face, causing paralysis that often creates a drooping eye, cheek, and mouth. Symptoms of Bells Palsy include twitching, ear pain, loss of facial expression, and difficulty in performing daily actions, such as speaking, eating, and drinking. This condition is usually short-lived, but in some cases, it may continue for several months.
